The moment we have all been waiting for has finally arrived. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. has been called up from AAA Buffalo and will join the Blue Jays 25-man-roster.
Vlad’s service time manipulation extravaganza ended on April 12th but didn’t see a call up right away that many people expected. Mostly in part to him rehabbing the oblique injury he suffered during spring training.
But now that Vlad has seen consistent game time in Buffalo (well…. aside all the rain Buffalo has seen recently) and is one hundred percent healthy Shapiro and Co. has decided it’s finally time to see what he can do against major league pitching.
The hype train started for the top prospect from the moment he was signed as an international free agent in 2015. But the hype peaked after the iconic walk-off in Montreal during last years exhibition games.
Making the wait until now, a whopping 13 months seem like forever. Personally, keeping Vlad down all of last year letting him slash .381/.437/1.073 across four levels was the right move to make but that’s another story for another day.
Today is a day to celebrate, Vlad is now officially a Blue Jay and with the team hovering around a .500 record things are looking up for Toronto baseball fans.
So enjoy it Toronto, it has been a long time in the waiting.
