Maple Leafs take a trip to the US capital

The Toronto Maple Leafs will look to win three games in a row on Wednesday night against the Washington Capitals. On the second night of a back to back the Leafs will need to play solid defensively against a highly skilled Capitals team.

Talking Points

Ilya Samsonov, 22, will get the start tonight over Braden Holtby. In Samsonov’s three career games (all this year) he has a .944 SV%. In five games this season Holtby has struggled. Over 253 minutes he has a .846 SV%.

The Tavares/Marner line had a breakout game against Minnesota but a majority of that success was on the power play. They will look to build on last nights performance and produce five on five.

Morgan Rielly tied the Maple Leafs franchise record with four assists during Tuesday’s tilt with the Wild. He will look to stay hot and build off of his best performance of the season.

On the second night of a back to back Michael Hutchinson will make his second start of the season. In his first start against Montreal, Hutchinson allowed five goals on 42 shots.
