Record-breaker Bo Bichette

Who would have thought when calling up prospect Bo Bichette that less than a month later we would be discussing his name in the same sentence as Joe DiMaggio.

Well, that’s exactly what is happening this weekend in Seattle. Toronto is on their yearly trip to Seattle to face the Mariners for their extra three home games a year. Once again, west coast Blue Jays fans have invaded T-Mobile Park to support Canada’s team.

The biggest story this weekend apart from the horrendous jerseys, (don’t even get me started) is the continued success of rookie sensation Bo Bichette. In last nights 7-5 victory, Bo Bichette had three hits, two of them being for extra bases.

Bichette’s dominance continues

His first extra-base hit, a home run off of Felix Hernandez in the third inning was his 20th extra-base hit in his first 25 games in the major leagues. Bichette is only the third player ever to accomplish that feat. The others being Roy Weatherly and previously mentioned Joe DiMaggio.

Bichette’s second extra-base hit came in the eighth when he stung a ball into the left-center field gap for a double, scoring Danny Jansen. While not record-breaking (Weatherly and DiMaggio hit 22 extra-base hits in their first 25 games) falling one short is nothing to bat an eye at.

Every time you think Bo Bichette can’t top what he just did, he manages to, every single time.

Last night being his 14th multi-hit game falls in the same record book with DiMaggio and Weatherly but the two records are pretty much linked.

Keeping up this pace is impossible. It won’t happen and never will. But Bo Bichette is being mentioned alongside legend Joe DiMaggio. Take all this in Jays fans, because it’s only the beginning.

First pitch of the rubber match is at 4:10 EST/1:10 PST.
